Art Activities For Kids & Families At MAMA

Murray Art Museum Albury

As an art museum, the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) is dedicated to making art more accessible. We are committed to helping everyone learn more about Australia's art and culture.

MAMA features a variety of activities that are nourishing and stimulating for the whole family. Our goal is for families to feel comfortable visiting the museum, knowing that they can be as relaxed or engaged as they feel like on the day.

Kids Activity Trail

One of the Museum's most engaging activities is the Kids Activity Trail. This free, self-guided trail takes children on a tour through the Museum using drawing activities and thought-provoking quizzes. Along the trail, kids will also come across various artworks and installations designed to pique their interests.

Wonder Cupboards

Also, be on the lookout for our Wonder Cupboards scattered throughout the Museum. The cupboard doors hide little installation spaces that are curated especially for children. Each artwork is commissioned by a contemporary Australian artist, with the artworks changing several times per year. Each piece tells a unique story and hides a secret waiting to be discovered by the museum's young visitors.

Art Activity Tables

In addition to the roving Kids Activity Trail, we have an Activity Table that gives you time to pause, and make something with your hands. These free activities are linked to exhibitions, and are designed to stimulate the creativity and imagination of children. Members of our Visitor Experience Team are present to guide the kids and help them get started with the activities.

Art Camps and Art School

For a more comprehensive art experience, school aged children can also participate in Art Camps and Art School.

Every school holidays, full day art workshops, or Art Camps, are held for kids aged 5 to 15. At Art Camp, kids have the opportunity to spend a day with other creative kids making art with experienced art educators. In each session, kids go on a guided tour around the Museum and are taught how to create art using different mediums, such as paint, watercolour, charcoal, and ceramics. Our facilitators will help the kids create works of art inspired by the Museum's current exhibitions.

During the school terms, kids from Grades 1 to 9 are invited to join Art School. Through weekly after-school classes, participants can develop foundation artistic skills and learn more about colour, composition, and self-expression. Classes are structured for grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6, and 7 to 9. Each term, young artists will build skills and gain confidence experimenting with their own artistic styles.
