Murray Art Museum Albury

Located in the heart of Albury, Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) is committed to challenging, strengthening, and enriching the community through art. With the help of its various public events and exhibitions, MAMA makes art more accessible, which helps in fostering passion and creativity within the community.


The museum has earned a reputation for its innovative, original exhibitions, and has become one of the most visited art centers in regional New South Wales. The museum shows up to six exhibitions at any one time, with original major exhibitions, exciting new commissions, exhibitions by First Nations artists, work by local artists, and exhibitions for children.

The museum’s extensive permanent collection contains almost 3000 items, collected since the inaugural Albury Art Prize in 1947. Today, the collection is focussed on photography, works by Wiradjuri artists, and significant modern and contemporary Australian art, including artists that lived and worked in the Murray region. Works from the permanent collection are included in many exhibitions, as well as shown in the dedicated collection gallery on the ground floor.

Workshops And Courses

Each week, the MAMA Studio holds courses, workshops, and master classes for aspiring artists with varying skill levels and anyone looking to explore their creative side. These courses are focused on helping people develop new skills in various areas such as acrylic painting, drawing, photography, and ceramics.

Those looking to develop more advanced art skills can participate in masterclasses that are facilitated by the museum’s visiting and exhibiting artists.

Family-Oriented Activities

Adults aren’t the only ones who will enjoy the offerings of the museum. Kids and teens of all ages are invited to explore the exhibitions in each gallery to learn more about the culture and experience of the Albury community and contemporary Australian life. A free Kids Activity Trail is available at entry, with activities to complete in each exhibition.

Kids and teens can also participate in art camps and classes held in the MAMA Studio. These events are designed to stimulate the creative abilities of children, and are held after school hours and during school holidays.
