Rosemary Laing – 'Brownwork #9'

Rosemary Laing is a photomedia artist who has exhibited extensively in Australia since the late 1980s, and has more recently shown across the United States, Europe and Asia.

One of Australia's most adventurous photographers, she works more like a film director than a traditional photographer, along the lines of Cindy Sherman, Gregory Crewdson and Tracey Moffatt.

The Brownwork series was first made in 1997. It consists of four images: 'Brownwork' #1, #7, #8 and #9. 'Brownwork #9' was shown at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art in an exhibition 'Photography is dead! : long live photography!' curated by Linda Michael.

The image is also part of the Sydney Airport lightbox project in the Qantas arrivals hall, and in the collection of Monash University, Melbourne.
