About the exhibition
On the night of 31 May 1942, three Japanese midget submarines entered the waters of Sydney Harbour and launched a surprise attack that left an indelible mark on Australia's history.
In 2012, to mark the 70th anniversary of the event, Mosman Art Gallery commissioned artist Ken Done to interpret and respond to this remarkable story.
The resulting exhibition, ATTACK: Japanese Midget Submarines in Sydney Harbour, was a compelling and culturally sensitive body of work that dealt with the themes of empire, self-sacrifice, death, destruction and honour.
