Catherine O'Donnell: Venetian Visions

About the Exhibition

In 2009 Catherine O'Donnell won the Albury Art Prize, through which she completed a residency at Scuola International di Grafica (Venice, Italy) with the aim of creating an exhibition of work exploring the architecture, culture and history of the everyday Venice. Rather than focusing on the city's well-known and iconic sights, Catherine studied its landscape, back alleys and hidden areas.

The exhibition presented a suite of large-scale charcoal drawings of the Venetian city landscape in which the buildings tell their own stories. It combined Catherine's interest in light and shadow, geometry, the everyday and commonly overlooked urban environments.
