ANZ has announced its sponsorship of the Murray Art Museum of Albury (MAMA), signing on as a principle community partner in a move that will help the gallery's vision to position Albury as a major cultural destination.

The sponsorship was officially launched at a ceremony attended today by ANZ Chief Executive Officer Shayne Elliott, AlburyCity Mayor Henk van de Ven and MAMA Director Jacqui Hemsley.

ANZ's Regional Executive for North East Victoria Conor Noonan said: "ANZ is committed to supporting regional Australia and our sponsorship of MAMA recognises that arts can make a genuine cultural, social and economic contribution to a local region.

"This investment in MAMA will help foster local creativity, boost tourism and employment and help put the Albury-Wodonga region on the map as a prosperous regional city."

Cr van de Ven thanked ANZ for its sponsorship of MAMA and congratulated the Bank on its commitment to the Border region.

"This region is fast becoming known as a regional arts and culture hub, with MAMA recognised for drawing large crowds from Sydney and Melbourne to see some of the most prominent artists. ANZ's support extends the impact MAMA has to further build our reputation as a cultural community," he said.

MAMA Director Jacqui Hemsley said: "MAMA reimagines what a gallery can be through its all-encompassing contemporary art experience. The balance we create between international touring exhibitions and local cultural identity is a striking proposition for our region and it is made easier by sponsorships such as ANZ's today."

ANZ's sponsorship will help provide the opportunity for local, national and international artists to display their works at MAMA as well as offer budding artists the chance to take classes at the acclaimed museum.
