Each year, MAMA invites artists, artist groups, collaborative practitioners, curators and makers of all kinds to apply during our Open Call. The program is dedicated to presenting the work of artists from our region (Riverina Murray & North East Victoria), as well as artists from beyond the region whose work is locally significant.
The Museum is committed to supporting and working with artists from our region, providing opportunities for artistic growth and professional development. Artists selected through the Open Call program are supported in the development of their exhibition with artist fees, assistance with production and professional guidance.
Artists from all backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to apply - senior artists, emerging, mid-career, self-taught, established and academic artists alike. The presentation of painting, moving-image, photography, mixed media, sculpture, performance, sound, text-based work, ceramics, object-based and conceptual practices is welcomed as part of the great breadth of contemporary art that the Museum nurtures, desires and celebrates.
Applications for Open Call 2023 are now closed.
- Applications involve a short artist biography, an outline of your proposed project, and a selection of supporting material.
- On the application form, you will be asked whether you are eligible for the Susan Moorhead Memorial Prize as an emerging artist from the local region.
- Applications for the Open Call program are assessed by MAMA Curatorial and programming staff. The Susan Moorhead Memorial Award is assessed by a panel comprising the MAMA Curator, a representative of the MAMA Art Foundation and a relevant community representative.
- As per MAMA Ethics Policy, individuals receiving their primary income from AlburyCity, as well as those engaged in positions of support through the MAMA Advisory Committee and the MAMA Art Foundation are not eligible to apply.
