RAW Program

Each year the Museum invites young people with a passion for art – whether they are attending school, are formally trained or none of the above – to apply for the RAW program. RAW aims to highlight the creative strengths of young people of our region.

Young artists (ages 16 - 21) are invited to submit an original artwork, or a small series of artworks, for consideration for a group exhibition.

The Museum is committed to supporting and working with young artists from our region, providing opportunities for artistic growth and professional development. Artists selected for the program will be involved in three workshop sessions leading up the the exhibition covering artwork preparation, exhibition installation and organising the opening event.

Artists from all backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to apply - painting, moving-image, photography, mixed media, sculpture, performance, sound, text-based work, ceramics, object-based and conceptual practices is welcomed as part of the great breadth of contemporary art that the Museum nurtures, desires and celebrates.

  • Applications for the RAW program are assessed by MAMA Curatorial and programming staff.

RAW Studio Scholarships

Each year RAW artists are invited to apply for one of two MAMA Studio Scholarships. The scholarships enables artists to enrol in an 8-week art course of their choice from those offered by MAMA Studio. All course fees are covered with art making materials to be sourced by the individual.

The MAMA Studio Scholarships offer the opportunity for young artists to continue developing their practical artmaking skills within a medium that extends and challenges their current practice.

Scholarship applications are assessed by the Curatorial team post exhibition opening and awarded to artists directly.
