The exhibition will feature 26 paintings that depict the story of the Kelly gang, created over two years in 1946-1947. Part folklore, part history, this story is deeply embedded in the imagination of the Murray region.

Sidney Nolan's depiction of Ned Kelly is instantly recognisable, in fact, its often the first image that comes to mind when we hear stories of the infamous outlaw.

Art works of this significance are costly to exhibit. While museum entry is always free, MAMA has historically put a cover charge on one major exhibition per year to help partially recover costs.

Past ticketed exhibitions include Marilyn: Celebrating an American IconSPEED: The Fast and the Curious and Archibald Prize 2017.

However, this year MAMA has been able to secure sponsorship from a group of community sponsors.

Karyn Ford, Acting Director is thrilled with the support. “As a result of this sponsorship, we’re very pleased to announce that we will not be ticketing this exhibition, it will be free of charge."

“Usually we hold one ticketed exhibition a year to help recover some of our operating costs. We are so grateful that the community has stepped up in support of this significant Australian exhibition. It will reduce the financial barrier to visiting the museum and allow more people to enjoy the artwork.”

"We're anticipating around 20,000 visitors to the Museum during this exhibition. That is a huge bonus for tourism, retailers, restaurants and accommodation providers in the city. The timing of Sidney Nolan: Ned Kelly series over the busy Summer holiday period is perfect, and we look forward to a busy couple of months" Ford concluded.

Our deepest thanks to the sponsors that made this happen:
