Embracing Colour

This course will provide you with the foundation skills needed to understand colour theories and the potential for applying this knowledge to your art practice whatever your medium may be.

Building on your instincts and preferences, the knowledge you gain from this course will help you to make conscious colour choices to enhance visual impact, limit your palette, or add emotional undercurrents.

Although this course is geared towards visual art, the knowledge can be applied to many applications.

Session One:

In the first session we will look at various theories of colour through small activities followed by further investigations using coloured paper collage and coloured drawing mediums.

We will apply our new knowledge to Artworks to identify the various qualities of colour and their potential effects.

Session Two:

In the second session we will focus on apply the power of colour through the creation of small works using gouache paint.

You will gain and understanding of the paint and your own colour preferences as we move into further experimentation and choosing colour for a particular effect.

You will have access to invaluable feedback and discussion, individually and as a class.

All materials provided. Please feel free to bring a notepad and pen for note taking if you wish.

Meet The Tutor: Mary-Rose Riley

Mary-Rose Riley is a visual artist based in North East Victoria whose practice spans four decades. Her multidisciplinary output incorporates observational drawing, painting, and more recently her work has included sculptural and time-based pieces.
