Join us for the opening of Malcolm Jagamarra Maloney, a survey of the artist's work from the 1990's to the present. Malcolm Jagamarra Maloney is a Warlpiri man and celebrated painter, who lives and works in Albury. The exhibition includes stories of Dreaming, astrology, totems, and ceremony. A key image in Jagamarra’s work is the Lander River, on Walpiri Country, north-west of Alice Springs, which features prominently in this survey of paintings.

Jagamarra is a member of the Stolen Generations, removed from his family and Walpiri Country as a child. He lived in Adelaide, Darwin, and Alice Springs before returning to his Country as an adult and being initiated through ceremony. Learning painting and stories from his Uncle, Jagamarra then embarked on a career that took him and his work across the globe at a moment when Aboriginal painting was receiving great international attention for the first time. Jagamarra has continued to extend the possibilities of his painting throughout his enduring career.

A Welcome to Country will be offered by Uncle Darren Wighton at 6.00pm.
