Join us for a conversation with artist Mat Vaughan, as we explore his artistic practice and inspiration for his current exhibition Rally12.

As an artist, Mat lives with the tension of time moving on and paint staying still. There is a creative agitation that is embodied in Rally12, a series now fixed by its exhibition and public gaze. And yet to the viewer the works are not static, but generate their own experience and meaning with each new encounter.

Mat will expand on the themes and motifs in Rally12, including the presence of competition and table tennis that recurs throughout the show.

About the artist
Mat Vaughan is an artist based in the alpine village of Wandiligong. Vaughan conceives of painting as an active and ongoing process, frozen only at the moment works enter the gallery space. Vaughan’s paintings are worked on, erased, and reworked, sometimes with years between activity.
