Kids Workshop: Weaving with Allie McCleary
Learn new skills in this weaving workshop for kids.
MAMA Studio’s weaving workshop taps into children’s imagination, allowing them to express and create with a new medium, whilst learning basic skills in weaving.
This workshop is for primary school-aged children, run by ceramicist and textile artist, Allie McCleary.
Workshop Outline
Welcome & Introduction
An overview of the workshop, including an explanation of the equipment, materials, and project. Example creatures will be shown and discussed for the children to understand the concept.
Demonstration
A step-by-step demonstration of the techniques used to create tapestry creatures, including how to begin weaving, change colours or yarn, and add finishing decorative touches.
Creating
Children will choose the creature they wish to create, select their yarn colours, and begin their weaving project.
Guided Support
The instructor will pause at key moments to demonstrate next steps to the group or provide individual assistance as needed.
Participants should have completed at least one year of schooling (Kindergarten/Foundation or equivalent).

Meet the Artist: Allie McCleary
Allie is a local multidisciplinary artist and tutor working predominantly with ceramics and textiles. Allie has trained in ceramics in Italy and is an experienced tutor for all ages. She excels in helping young artists to find their creative voice and build on their technical skills.
