Local Artists Announced for the 2027 Open Call Program
Murray Art Museum Albury have chosen the successful applicants for the 2027 Open Call program for local artists. Next year’s program will feature five artists presenting works in solo exhibitions.
Each year MAMA invites artists from the region as well as artists working elsewhere on projects connected to the Murray region to propose exhibitions. Those artists then invited to make an exhibition at the museum are supported throughout the process by MAMA’s Curatorial team.
“We are delighted to announce the MAMA Open Call exhibition program for 2027. The quality of proposals was extremely high, reflecting the depth and range of artistic activity in our region. MAMA’s program prioritises the work and professional development of artists in the Murray and surrounding region in various ways, with the year long series of Open Call exhibitions at the heart, creating unique opportunities for local audiences and visitors alike to enjoy the very best of contemporary art in our region.”
In 2027, local artist Alison Percy will present an exhibition of large-scale paintings depicting the Australian High Country, capturing the landscape’s subtle details and shifting moods through expressive mark-making and nuanced colour.
Wagga Wagga-based artist Fiona Currey-Billyard will exhibit a new body of work that has been developed during a recent residency in the Albury region. Using a paper mould technique, she seeks to recreate memories of historical and personal events held within landscapes.
Hydro Schema is an artist-led project comprising Aidan Hartshorn, Amanda Williams, Jack Harman and Lu Forsberg. Together, they will present an exhibition spanning installation, sculpture, photography and moving-image works, exploring how hydroelectricity and irrigation have shaped the landscapes and communities of South-East Australia.
Completing the 2027 program is Mount Bruno-based artist Claire Beausein who will present Continuum. Inspired by the expansive skies above her studio, she explores networks of interconnection through delicate, transient materials including light, thread, wild silk cocoons and paper.
