Meet the Architects: Studio Chris Fox and Bollinger+Grohmann

Join award-winning artist and architect Chris Fox (Studio Chris Fox), along with engineer Sascha Bohnenberger-Fehr (Bollinger+Grohmann), as they unpack the design process, cutting-edge technologies and inspiration behind 'Re/place Pavilion'.

Narrating a collection of images and modular prototypes, Chris and Sascha will bring you on a journey of the pavilion’s development, highlighting its significance as an architectural investigation.

Summer Place is a nationally significant temporary pavilion that connects people, challenges conventional thinking and inspires creative solutions. 

This year’s Summer Place pavilion Re-Place is designed by leading architects Studio Chris Fox and engineers Bollinger+Grohmann, in partnership with University of Sydney and Swinburne University of Technology.

Meet the Architects

Chris Fox

Chris Fox is the Founding Director of Studio Chris Fox, a multidisciplinary design studio bridging art, architecture and engineering.

Practicing as both an artist and architect, Chris has over 25 years of experience in the built environment, designing and delivering landmark interventions that push boundaries of what seems physically possible, whilst telling meaningful stories of place.

His recent awards include:

  • 2021 Good Design Awards Australia, Gold Accolade in the Architectural Design -Urban Design and Public Spaces
  • 2021 Architecture Master Prize, Honourable Mentions in Architectural Design - Miscellaneous Architecture, Landscape Architecture - Installations & Structures
  • 2021 Finalist in the Australian Timber Design Awards, Recognising excellence in timber design - Standalone Structure

Chris is also a Senior Lecturer in Art Processes and Architecture at the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

Sascha Bohnenberger-Fehr

Sascha Bohnenberger-Fehr is a Managing Director at international engineering firm, Bollinger+Grohmann (B+G), as well as a Lecturer of Architecture at Swinburne University of Technology.

Sascha has worked on many award-winning national and international projects, such as the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne designed by SANAA, the Musée des Confluences in Lyon by Coop Himmelb(l)au and the Monash University Business School designed by NH Architecture.

Additionally, Sascha’s research into sustainable material systems and future fabrication technologies correlates with his work on sculptures, public artworks and experimental architecture.
