Summer Place was an experimental architecture project led by MAMA, held in QEII Square in the heart of Albury’s cultural precinct. Summer Place aimed to engage the community in new ways with our public space and provided architects with the opportunity to experiment and be creative with urban design.

In its second year, Summer Place 2019 was designed by CHROFI architect Joshua Zoeller.

The design took its inspiration from the agricultural industry in the region, experimenting with the same mesh that horticulturalists use to reduce evaporation, and damage from sunlight and storms. Agricultural systems may be hectares in size, with relatively little material used.

Summer Place highlighted the current climate emergency, and the increasing stress this placed on the landscape and urban environment. The project aimed to stimulate a conversation about how we use our public spaces, in particular, how we adapt to increasing heat waves and drought.

CHROFI Architects are internationally recognised with a legacy of projects that were embedded in place, that solved structural urban problems, and celebrated the coming together of people, culture and life.
